Sep 16th 1981 saw one of the greatest fights of all time as Sugar Ray Leonard and Hitman Hearns battled to become the unified world welterweight champion. The advantage swung back and forth as first one and then the other went on the attack. By the end of the 12th Hearns was leading on points and Sugar Ray's face was swollen and battered. But his trainer's words stung him to action once more as he came out roaring at the bell and put Hearns through the ropes and then knocked him down again. By the 14th The Hitman was no longer able to defend himself and the referee stopped the fight.
